How has the coronavirus affected you? Maybe you’ve had to lay aside a favorite hobby or take a step back from a defining passion. Maybe your 401(k) has tanked. Maybe your relationships haven’t held up to the togetherness of quarantine as well as you’d hoped. Maybe you’ve lost your income. In this time when life for many of us is reduced to the basics, we are faced with the reality that any trust in temporal things for joy or security is always, ultimately misplaced.
Each of these things will one day let us down, because earthly treasures were never meant to bear the crushing weight of a soul with all its hopes and dreams. Only God can do that.
“In God alone my soul finds rest; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress; I will never be shaken,” (Psalm 62:1,2, BSB). When other strongholds give way, we are reminded that God alone is enough. Do you need to put your hope in Him again today?
When I need a reset, I speak these words: Travel is not my dream. Career is not my dream. Family is not my dream. Ministry is not my dream. JESUS is my dream.
He is carrying me even as He carries the world, for “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together,” (Colossians 1:17, NIV). And He assures me that “When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm,” (Psalm 75:3, NIV). I can rest my soul in His steady hands.
